He played the first three seasons of the IPL (2008, 2009 and 2010) for the Delhi Daredevils (DD) team and was a key player in the Delhi Daredevils’ middle order.

In the players auction for IPL 2011, he was bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for US $1.1 million. Since then he has been playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

AB De Villiers is known for his role of a finisher, who snatches wins out of the jaws of defeat for his team in many matches.

In IPL 2015, he played in 16 matches scoring 513 runs at an average of 46.63.

He was retained by the team for IPL 2016. In IPL 2016 he scored 687 runs playing in 16 matches at an average of 52.84, scoring 1 century and 6 half centuries.

He was retained by the team for IPL 2017.

Once again he will be playing in Vivo IPL 2017 for the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
