IPL 2018 : CSK & RR to Return ; No Extension for GL & RPS

IPL 2017 got over few days back and now the news about IPL 2018 have started coming in …

Season 11 of Indian Premier League (IPL 2018) will start in first week of April 2018 and eight teams will participate in the tournament.

IPL 2018 - CSK and RR Back in Action

Recently, IPL Chairman, Rajeev Shukla confirmed that Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) and Gujarat Lions (GL) will not get an extension for the next season and suspended IPL franchises, Rajasthan Royals, and Chennai Super Kings will be back in IPL 2018.

IPL Governing Council is in favour of having 8 IPL franchisee teams rather than having 10 teams as a 10-team league would increase the number of matches to 84.

Even if 10 teams happen to play in IPL 1018, both RPS and GL will have to undergo a fresh bidding process.

“No extension is being given to both the teams (RPS and Lions). The agreement was only for two years. Even if we make it a 10-team league, the two new teams would have to be freshly bid, so they (RPS and GL) are not being given any extension or anything,” Rajiv Shukla told media persons.

Talking about the Auction for IPL 2018, Rajiv Shukla indicated that retention policy may still be considered.

“We will have a mega auction but retention policy also needs to be decided. The mega-auction is not going to take place immediately it will be just before next IPL, so we have enough time to decide.”

Rajiv Shukla also said that the title sponsorship deal with Vivo ended after the 2017 season and it will once again go under the hammer only with a singular change — title sponsorship will be done through e-auction.
